Sahitya Srijan Manthan award
ITANAGAR, Nov 16: Dr. Joram Yalam Nabam, Assistant Professor (Dept Hindi) of Govt. Degree College Doimukh has been honoured with "Sahitya Srijan Manthan" award for her book "Sakshi Hai Peepel," a book of short stories reflecting the social and women issues in Arunachal Pradesh.
The award was presented to him in a function at Hyderabad yesterday. This award is given for creative writing in Hindi.
The English translation of Dr. Yalam's "Tani Momen" was also released on the occasion. "Tani Momen is a mythological book of AbotanI.
The function was presided over by Prof. M Venkatesh and attended among others by Sahitya academy awardee Prof Gopi, Padamshree Jagdish Mittal, Prof. Devraj from Wardha University and Prof Rishaba of Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Samity. Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) led by its president Y D Thongchi today congratulated Dr Joram Yalam Nabam on being conferred Sahitya Srijan Manthan award.
This is a great achievement for any Arunachalee and proves their hidden talent, Thongchi, a Sahitya Academy awardee himself, said. Given the right opportunities Arunachalees could excel in literary field too, he added.
State level seminar at NERIST
ITANAGAR, Nov 16: State level Science Seminar competition was held at NERIST Seminar Hall marking the Children’s Day on Nov 14.
Deepjyoti Sapkota was declared the winner of the State level Science Seminar competition which was jointly organized by NSUI State Unit in association with NERIST Research Scholar Association (NRSA).
Meetashree Das was declared second while Chinmay Bhattacharya stood third.
Speaking on the occasion, Director NERIST Prof P K Das spoke on the importance of science in the development of a nation.
Department of Education, RGU Prof KC Kapur highlighted about the education system in the country. General Secretary APCC Byabang Nukh highlighted in brief the biography of Pandit Nehru and appealed the students to follow the footsteps of Nehruji for a prosperous nation.

Taloh inaugurates Science stream of Kaying GHSS
AALO, Nov 16: Education Minister Tapang Taloh inaugurated the science stream of the Govt. Higher Secondary School Kaying yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, Taloh said his department was striving to revamp the ailing education system for which he sought cooperation from the teaching community and stakeholders to acheve the mission. He said opening of the science stream in the school will mostly benefit the students of remote areas in pursuing science education in their door steps.
Later, the minister inspected various schools in the area, including PI Colony Upper Primary School, Pobdi Secondary School, Govt. HS School, Kamba, Kerang Middle School and Kaying HS School.
He also disclosed that effort will be made to extend retirement age of sincere and good science and mathematics teachers to utilize their services for some more years.

Dakto Basar passes away
ITANAGAR, Nov 16: Dakto Basar, popularly and lovingly known as Lala who played key role in the development of West Siang district in particular and Arunachal Pradesh (especially during NEFA days) in general passed away yesterday evening after prolonged illness. The mortal remains will be buried at Basar Bazar now Nyobum Village which was established by him along with few of his friends. He was Bazaar Secretary of Basar and was one of the pioneer entrepreneurs of the region. During the early 60s, he first distributed rice mill and rice howler as dealer of J.K. Sato and also distributed rice howler of Bharat Shakti in different parts of undivided Siang and Subansiri district.
He was the first to start paddy cum fishing and wheat cultivation in the Basar valley.
Late Basar also played a pivotal role in development and upliftment of the Basar
area through institution building and played a major role in establishment of SSB

Politically he was very active and was elected as Anchal Samity Member unopposed for three consecutive terms and was PPA General Secretary of West Siang district.
As a social activist he spearheaded the movement against forceful shifting of Soi village during late 1960s. Late Dakto Basar is survived by his wife, four daughters, six sons besides several grandchildren. Er. Tomo Basar, Chief Engineer of PHED is his eldest son and Topi Basar his youngest daughter is the first LLM and PhD degree holder in Law from the State. Presently she is serving in the faculty of Law in Delhi University. Galo Welfare Society has mourned his untimely demise and termed it as great loss to the people of Basar and the Galo community at large.

Death of Meder Nello movement leader mourned
ITANAGAR, Nov 16: The Apatani Meder Nello Council and Danyi Piilo Society, Ziro mourned the demise of Charun Kago Siira, a prominent leader of Meder Nello movement and founder Papii Meder Nello,
Siira died on November 12 after a brief illness. He was born on February 7, 1961.
Describing him as a man of prolific and versatile personality, the release stated that his immense contributions made towards Meder Nello movement of Apatani Community will be fondly remembered.
He was a renowned lyricist, singer, composer of Meder Nello Hymns, a shaman par excellence who revolutionized the ritual of Danyi Tunniing. He was also a dedicated social worker with multi dimensional roles who played major role in the indigenous tradition, faith, culture and identity, it said.
The organisations offered condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

ITANAGAR, Nov 16: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki yesterday visited Google Headquarters, Mountain View, California, USA on an invitation by Google for the Google Global Education Symposium of Ministers.
As part of the Symposium, Tuki held detailed discussion with the Google Education Team headed by Caesar Sengupta, Vice President, Product Management, Michael de la Cruz, Global Head of Education, Bram Bout, Worlwide Director of Education and Gagandeep Singh Puri, Head of Education in India. This was a one of a kind interactive session and the first by any Chief Minister from Arunachal Pradesh.
Taking his vision to impart global standard education to the students of Arunachal Pradesh, Tuki, interacted enthusiastically for development of education.

Google has agreed to make detailed Arunachal specific report and project and bring in solutions keeping in mind the local issues associated with it. The Chief Minister further requested Google to invest in IT based industries in the state. Meanwhile, raising an important issue relating to wrong depiction of Arunachal Pradesh in Google Maps, Tuki requested for corrective measures. The Chief Minister made the matter very clear and submitted that ‘Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and will always remain so’ and appealed Google to rectify the mistake keeping in the mind the sensitivities of the people of Arunachal Pradesh and India as a whole. Google has assured to look into the matter and rectify it soon.
As a goodwill gesture the, Tuki presented traditional jackets of Arunachal Pradesh and Khadas to the Google team and has invited them to visit Arunachal Pradesh and experience the state and its people first hand.

Fire victims given financial assistance
ITANAGAR, Nov 16: Education Minister Tapang Taloh along with director of Relief & Rehabilitation YW Ringu and local administrators visited the victims of recent fire victims of Kerang village yesterday and provided them with some financial assistance and essential items.
Taloh handed over a cheque amounting to Rs 6, 16,000 to the fire vitims and distributed blankets to all the 56 affected people.
West Siang Zilla Parisgad Chairperson, Yaman Bagra also contributed few amounts to the affected people from her side.
While consoling the fire victims, Taloh encouraged them to not lose heart at the time of such adversity. He suggested the villagers to avoid construction of houses in close distances to ensure minimum damage in event of such incidents.
The cash relief has been provided as per Government norms. However, we will pursue the Chief Minister for providing more assistance to the victims, Taloh said. He appealed for generous contributions from all for quick rehabilitation of those who have been rendered homeless in the devastating fire.
A team of Adi Bane Kebang led by its president Kangir Jamoh and ABK Papum Pare unit General Secretary Sekkong Pertin met the fire victims at Kerang yesterday and distributed few household items, like utensils and blankets to all the fire victims.

Enough of those kind of works, from now there should be sincerity and honesty towards development and that can be gauged with the quality of works, Wangsu said. During a meeting with all the HoDs, the MLA asked them to submit reports and briefed them about the works and ongoing programmes and urged the officers to perform their duties with integrity and honesty. “I will never allow any outsider to wrongfully interfere in the daily business of administration”, he further assured.
Addressing another sensitization programme on NERCORMP projects, Wangsu encouraged the PRI leaders and elders to take up different sustainable schemes under NERCORMP for overall growth of rural economy. Each and everyone should be stakeholder and get benefit from such projects, he said while seeking integrated approach towards attaining self sufficiency.

Resentment against road construction

They alleged that, despite involving crores of money for the work, there is no sign of development, which reflects the failure of the implementing agency.
Recently, villagers of the area lodged a complaint to the higher authority against the concern department and erring officers responsible for the misuse of money.
Villagers alleged that huge amount of bills were paid to many persons without following the laid down procedures.
In many places mud is alleged to have been used in place of cement for construction of retaining wall, culvert and drainages.
In the DPR of the project there were some bridges mentioned but so far there is no sign of bridge even after spending huge amount of money, they alleged.
Further, villagers appealed to the government to inquire into the matter and initiate legal action against all those responsible for the misuse of money.
Tea Board organizes workshop on Plant Protection Code

Highlighting the aim and objective of the workshop, Arunachal Pradesh Small Tea Growers’ Association, president, Tadak Gab informed that PPC addresses the issues of consumers for a safe, healthier and environment friendly tea and also the issues of sustainability challenges faced by the industry, safeguarding the plantation environment, welfare of workers and long term security of supply.
The ultimate objective of the PPC is to minimize the negative impact of pesticides on humans, wildlife and the environment, he said.
The Tea Board Officials explained in detail the methods of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to manage pests and diseases in tea garden. It was emphasised that the off season is the important time to carry out various cultural practices in tea garden to minimize attacks of pests and diseases during the peak season.
The small tea growers were urged to follow the organized Tea Gardens’ Cold Weather Practices such as correct type of pruning with mixture of different types of pruning, hand cleaning, banjhi cleaning, caustic washing, drain cleaning and deepening, shade lopping, manual weeding, shade planting etc before starting the next season to minimize pest and disease.
The TRA expert elaborated different cultural practices to manage major pests of tea and explained how plant crude aquaus extracts can be prepared from easily available plants like Dhopat tita, khor pat, Agora, bitter fern etc to control some major pests of tea in case of low and moderate attack. He also demonstrated on pruning as well as cultural practices during field visit.
Various Do’s and Don’ts in tea pest management, guidelines of pesticide use, storage, transportation and disposal of pesticide containers, keeping proper gap from spraying to plucking etc as mentioned in PPC were highlighted. The list of recommended chemicals (PPFs) was distributed among the tea growers.
It was also informed that from January one next year, every factory will have to give declaration for every invoice that “teas have been made from green leaf for which only PPFs as recommended in the PPC have been used“.
The awareness programmes on the PPC aimed to help the small tea growers to face no problem in supplying green leaves to BLF from next season.
The programme was attended by approximately 30 growers of the locality.

In his public address at Lhou, while advocating the learning of Bodhi language, Pema said, “Bodhi language is the medium to wholly understand the true essence of Buddhism and is an integral part of our culture”.

There is no dearth of sporting talent in this country. Government agencies and corporate bodies should come out and support such sporting talents. It is time we look beyond cricket and start recognizing the achievements of other sporting heroes.

Need for toilets
Dear Editor,
There are no proper toilets in some educational institutions, hospitals and in the market places in the state.
Ladies are the main victims of defective toilet system.
The following points may be adopted for effective toilet system.
In the market places toilets should be constructed with adequate water supply and there should be separate toilet for Ladies and Gents.
Care takers maybe posted who would be eligible to collect entry fee from the users.
Rules and regulations may be adopted by the market committee regarding the maintenance of the toilet.
In the educational institutions, there should be toilets with adequate water supply.
Awareness campaign on keeping the toilet neat and clean should be conducted by the Head of the institution.
In the hospitals, there should be adequate water supply along with facilities for cleanliness.
In the bus stands, there should be separate toilet for Ladies and Gents.
The above points should be adopted for the conveniences of the people of state and the tourists will also have privileges of a proper toilet in Arunachal Pradesh.

Regarding an Ad
Dear Editor,
This is regarding an advertisement by the Chief Estate Officer, which was published on 15th Nov in your daily. I would like to know regarding the experience certificate as mentioned in the advertisement.
As per my Knowledge experience certificate is not issued by various departments of Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh.
So I don't think there is need of experience certificate for appearing in such kinds of interview. According to the advertisement published there should be minimum 3 years experience in eviction of unauthorized occupation. As per my knowledge they can ask Educational Certificate regarding Eviction instead of experience certificate.

An appeal from contractors
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the kind attention of Deputy Commissioner
as chairman and Deputy Director of School Education Daporijo as member secretary,
that the last instalment payments to the contractors for School Building under SSA
vide order No. EDN/US/SSA/BLDG/2013-
The contractors were denied of mobilization funds and once again, the delaying of paying the last instalment is a kind of financial humiliation to the poor contractors who have donated their land for the construction of school building without asking for compensations.
In this regard, I would like to appeal the Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Director of School Education of Upper Subansiri District to look into the matter and release the last instalment so that the poor contractors don't feel humiliated and fall into financial debts.
